Turn Your Dad into a Superhero for Father’s Day

Norbert Sparrow | May 18, 2023

Sure, your dad is your hero, but he could be so much more — a superhero, in fact. The Selfie Series from toymaker Hasbro does just that by 3D printing their face on the body of a six-inch action figure. The process is enabled by 3D printing technology company Formlabs.

You simply upload a few photos of your father's face to the Hasbro Pulse mobile app, choose hair color, add a beard or glasses, select a character — options range from G.I. Joe and Spiderman to Star Wars characters — and Shazam!, the perfect Father's Day gift.

Formlabs said it has been working with Hasbro since 2014, when the toymaker began using its 3D printers to produce rapid prototypes of new action figures. To bring the Selfie Series to commercial life, Hasbro uses more than 30 Form 3 printers, a new resin developed by Formlabs, and a custom digital workflow. The collaboration earned the companies an honorable mention in the consumer products category of Fast Company's 2023 World Changing Ideas Awards.

While Hasbro offers a range of options in terms of action figures, the possibilities truly are boundless. Why limit it to superheros? What snarky teen could resist printing Dad's face on the body of Darth Vader or, worse, Logan Roy?

Please note that the Hasbro Pulse mobile app currently is only available in the United States and users must be 16 or older.
