Simple hack for streak-free fog-resistant bathroom mirrors | Express.co.uk

There’s nothing more frustrating than stepping up to your bathroom mirror only to find it covered in smudges, streaks, and that stubborn film that just won’t go away.

In the spirit of underconsumption, you don’t have to go out and purchase a separate glass cleaner, you can simply use an item you likely already own.

According to TikTok user Leanne, the secret weapon for a spotless, streak-free mirror is a simple can of shaving cream.

Her surprising hack is making waves online, with users raving about how this everyday product can cut through grime, leave a streak-free shine, and even help prevent fogging.

In the video, Leanne shows herself applying a thin layer of shaving cream on her bathroom mirror, then wiping it clean with a rag.

“Clean your mirrors with shaving cream,” she says in the video, “it also acts as an anti-fog agent.”

According to home and DIY experts, Leanne's hack makes sense.

Shaving cream contains ingredients like emulsifiers and other agents commonly found in regular bar soaps, which help dissolve dirt and oils.

This insight was echoed by The Spruce, which explained that shaving cream can even be used as a last-minute substitute for hand soap.

Laura Wheatman Hill from Apartment Therapy put the hack to the test to find out.

After smearing a little Barbasol shaving cream on a mirror smeared with toothpaste, she was surprised by how quickly it cleaned up.

“The toothpaste came right off in just two swipes,” she reported, adding that her mirror “has never looked cleaner.”

Hill was particularly impressed with the streak-free shine the shaving cream left behind, a common challenge when cleaning mirrors.

While Hill praised the cleaning power of shaving cream, she admitted that it didn’t quite prevent fogging on her mirror as Leanne had claimed.

So while it may not serve as a complete anti-fog solution, the hack is still effective for tackling smudges and leaving mirrors crystal clear.
