'Drug Take Back Day' to help Wisconsinites declutter medicine cabinets safely

GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- It's that time of year again to check your medicine cabinets.

Saturday is Drug Take Back Day in Wisconsin where residents can safely dispose of expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs or over-the-counter medications at multiple locations around the state.

Properly disposing of your unwanted or unused medications is important as it can keep the drugs out of the wrong hands to be abused, accidentally ingested, or stolen. Flushing them down the toilet can also have negative environmental impacts.

Accepted items include:

All liquids must be in their original container and NO sharps will be accepted. Also, ALL identifying information must be crossed out on the containers.

During Wisconsin's spring Drug Take Back Day, which was held April, health officials report that Wisconsinites safely disposed of 55,122 pounds of medications.
